There are a number of cognitive and behavioral approaches to turn down the volume on your pain.(20) Self-management strategies are an essential component of a multi-modal treatment program for nociplastic pain; however, your willingness to participate in such strategies will greatly impact their potential benefit. The preconceived notion that chronic pain is solely due to peripheral pain generators is often a major hurdle to overcome in the management of a nociplastic pain condition.(6) Being open to looking at your pain from a different point of view could make all the difference.
