Our Mission:
The Chronic Widespread Pain Clinic provides patient-centered education and guidance to adults with multisystem pain complaints that have failed to respond to usual care. The ultimate goal is to help you develop skills to improve your overall wellbeing.
What is Chronic Widespread Pain?
When looking at the whole patient, Chronic Widespread Pain (CWP) could be considered one of the most common human conditions. A review of your medical record may reveal a number of individual symptoms that reflect the broader story of CWP.
While the hallmark feature of nociplastic pain (such as fibromyalgia) is CWP, not all patients with multiple pain complaints meet the criteria for conditions such as fibromyalgia. It is essential that your clinicians use a systematic approach in evaluating you for any underlying diagnosis that may be amendable to treatment (e.g., rheumatologic, neurologic…). It is not uncommon that many of your prior tests have been reported as "normal" or "age-related changes", but still your pain may persist. You may have also been told, "We just don't know why you are still having pain".
Regardless of whether there is a clearly identifiable pain generator, if you have features of CWP then you will likely benefit from developing skills to turn down the pain amplification within your nervous system.
